Reasons To Choose A Stained Glass Window Insert

Blog

When you picture a window insert in a residential door, you might think of a clear panel of glass that helps to add light to the home. Window inserts often fit this description, but there is a wide range of products on the market that look less conventional. One product that may catch your attention is a stained glass window insert. Although synonymous with religious buildings, stained glass panels are also popular in residential applications — and may be an option that you wish to consider for your front door. Here are some reasons to choose a stained glass window insert.

Rays Of Color Inside

A stained glass window insert is a simple and effective way to add a splash of color to the interior of your home. Not only will you see the colored glass whenever the door is in sight, but you might also be treated to different rays of light when the sun hits the door at various angles. For example, if you have a long hallway that approaches your front door, you'll likely see colorful rays on the floor and perhaps even the walls at certain times of the day. If you're the type of person who loves bright colors and feels that the interior of your home can always benefit from more vibrant hues, a stained glass insert is a good option.

Unique Exterior Look

If you walk down your street and take a look at the front doors of your neighbors' homes, there's a good chance that several of these doors have conventional window inserts. Stained glass inserts are more rare, which can help to give your home a unique look from the outside. This simple change can elevate the residence's curb appeal, and you may find that the stained glass offers a visual warmth that helps to make your home stand out among those on your street.

Slightly Opaque

A lot of people like the idea of a window insert in their front door, but also feel concerned that this addition may reduce the privacy inside the home. While it's true that people who are outside of the residence would be able to see through a clear insert, you'll often find that those that are made of stained glass are a lot more opaque from a distance. This will give you the source of light that you want in an insert, without compromising your privacy to any significant level.

French Doors: Considering Different Options

When the time came to invest in a new patio door, I thought that something other than the older sliding glass door would be nice. That's when a friend suggested I look into the idea of installing French doors. After taking a look at the space, the contractor talked with me about how we could design the doors and achieve the look I had in mind. What I ended up with was actually two sets of French doors with a narrow stained glass window in between. I still had plenty of natural light coming into the space, but I also had the graceful look of the doors. If you are wondering if French doors are right for your home, let's talk. After you hear more about my project, I'm betting you'll want to ask a contractor if this approach is worth considering.
